CT Town Council Rejects Flying Thin Blue Line Flag to Honor Trooper Killed on Duty
Flies Pride/BIPOC flag at half-staff instead.
And on it goes. After having so recently written at NPA about a Washington State judge reducing the bail by 90% for an accused illegal alien DUI driver who allegedly crashed into a Washington State Patrol trooper’s car, killing him, here’s a similarly horrifying (and then insulting) story out of Connecticut. In this case, the trooper was allegedly killed by a hit and run, DUI, driver whose criminal history includes a conviction for third degree murder.
To add to the insult to cops, not only did a lax radical leftist system allow this suspect back on the streets to cause more harm, in this case the death of a trooper, the Democrat-majority Wethersfield, CT. town council voted down an effort to display the thin blue line flag in honor of the dead trooper.
Libs of Tik Tok did a great job of covering this disgraceful action by the town council as you’ll see their X Posts inserted throughout.
In a baffling move the town reportedly flew the Pride flag at half-staff instead (and it wasn’t simply a Gay Pride flag. It also included the BIPOC (Marxist) represented by a triangle of colors). As far as I know, Connecticut State Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier is not gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that). And, by the way, neither is his wife with whom he has two children who are now fatherless, which adds to the town council’s despicable actions.
My colleague, Steve Owsinski, wrote a great article about this controversy at the NPA website. I encourage you to pop over there to read it.
Apparently, the folks requesting the Pride flag fly did so with the requisite 30-day notice. Well, should Trooper Pelletier’s family apologize to the town council that the suspect didn’t give them a 30-day notice before he killed a cop in the line of duty?
It’s hard to convey the depth of ignorance at the comments of the deputy mayor who apparently gleans his “historical facts” and research from Wikipedia. When I went back to school to finish my degree in 2012, one of the first things students were told was never to use Wikipedia as a primary reference—EVER!
This goofball deputy mayor seemed quite confident in the information he’d obtained from the dubious sourcing site. According to WFSB 3 News, “In the middle of Monday night’s meeting, Deputy Mayor Matthew Forrest even Google searched the flag and its history.”
“I quickly went onto Wikipedia,” said Forrest. And, as reported by NBC Connecticut, “Matthew Forrest… was among the no votes. He read the Wikipedia definition of the flag during the meeting.”
Forrest said, “It says here it’s become emblematic of white nationalist, neo-Nazi, and alt right movements in the United States.”
Oh, well, Wikipedia says it, so it must be right. Hold up. That bit of dumb just smacked me so hard in the face—my eyes are watering. I’ll need a minute.
According to Law Enforcement Today (LET), the Wethersfield, CT., Town Council voted against a proposal made by Councilman Rich Bailey to fly the thin-blue-line flag to honor Trooper Pelletier. According to Matthew Holloway at LET, the council condemned the flag by falsely claiming it’s “‘associated with hate,’ and saying it ‘represents racism and antagonism.’”
Holloway reported the Council voted “along party lines with the three Republicans voting in favor, and five Democrats voting against, with one abstention.”
“Councilwoman Emily Zambrello argued against him [Bailey] claiming the flag which predates the #BlackLivesMatter movement, ‘represents racism and antagonism to many, many people,’ she quipped, ‘and if you don’t personally believe that, and you fly at your own house and you think it means something to you, that is much more positive.’ She added, ‘It’s just not how many people feel about it. It’s not appropriate to raise it over our town hall, especially when our flag policy prohibits us from doing anything associated with hate.’”
“How many people feel about it.” So, that’s the standard? How people feel about something that has a definition. Only anti-cop bigots associate the TBL flag with hate and racism because, in the real world, it never has been.
Think about it. All the radical left has to do is proclaim that a symbol they don’t like is “racist” and “hateful” and puff, magically a venerated symbol of support for police, beloved by cops and their supporters, becomes de facto racist and hateful? Is that how things work now? Must be because they’ve also done it with the Gadsden, First Navy Jack, and, most recently, Appeal to Heaven flags.
For example, in 2016, in the leftist magazine The New Yorker, they wrote about “The Shifting Symbolism of the Gadsden Flag.” “Shifting” only because they don’t approve of a minority of people displaying it. The flag’s symbolism didn’t shift; the radical leftists are trying to shift it in a continuing effort to degrade America’s cultural traditions and icons.
Ridiculously, in, no surprise, San Francisco, according to ABC News, officials removed their Appeal to Heaven flag, which has flown in front of city hall for 60 years. Why? Because the radical leftists were upset that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Alito’s wife flew the flag during an ongoing dispute with a radical leftist neighbor.
Apparently, once someone the radicals don’t like displays a beloved symbol, for whatever their reasons, magically that symbol has been “coopted” and must be immediately removed. How convenient. Sometimes disparate groups express similar behaviors. For example, should San Francisco city officials ban milk because the “far right” drinks milk?
Another little trick they do is to define as “far right” anyone who isn’t radically leftist. For example, they’re not only talking about a couple white supremacists who may have flown the TBL flag. They mostly talking about average conservatives, libertarians, and Republicans who support President Donald Trump and his MAGA movement.
It’s political alchemy.
About San Fran’s Appeal to Heaven flag removal, ABC wrote, “A historic flag that has flown in front of San Francisco City Hall for 60 years symbolizing America’s quest for independence has been taken down about a month before Independence Day after city leaders said it had become co-opted by far-right groups that don’t ‘represent the city's values.’” Again, how convenient.
So, we know the deputy mayor is a dipshit. But don’t look to Wethersfield’s mayor, Ken Lesser, for any sympathy for a dead cop. He suggested the town fly the “first responder flag.” As I sit here writing, no image comes to mind.
However, after stating the TBL flag “designed for police officers…goes back…well over 100 years… [try over 150 years],” he asserts it “has been used by white supremacists, and many police groups have disavowed that flag.”
Funny, but he failed to mention any of those supposed flag-disavowing “police groups.” It’s likely the only flag-disavowing “police groups,” are those fainthearted police chiefs and sheriffs who succumb to political pressure from those who appointed or elected them to their positions.
